May at Grounded Gardens: Notes From the Shop
Hi friends,
May has us feeling equal parts organized and gloriously chaotic, which is honestly the sweet spot for spring. The plants are pushing out fresh growth, the shop is buzzing, and every week seems to come with a new reason to repot something and say “okay wow, this one is cute” at least ten times.
So instead of our usual blog flow, we’re doing this month’s update newsletter-style: quick hits, fun stuff, and a little peek at what’s happening around Grounded Gardens right now.
This Month’s Highlights
Here’s the short-and-sweet version of what’s going on in May:
- Spring planting season is officially here. If you’ve been waiting to move plants outdoors, start veggie starts, or refresh your containers, this is your sign.
- Fresh shop picks are rolling in. We’ve got colorful favorites, easy growers, and a few conversation-starting finds ready for new homes.
- Our website is officially launching. You can now find us at groundedgardens.us, which feels very official and a little bit surreal in the best way.
- Whatnot Saturdays are on. We’re now live every Saturday at 1 PM with rare plant energy, surprise finds, and our usual auction chaos.
- Grand Opening is coming soon. We’re not spilling every detail just yet, but yes, something exciting is on the way.
- Workshops and community moments are blooming too. Think connection, creativity, and planty main-character energy.

Featured Plant of the Month
This month’s featured plant is the Tradescantia Lollipop, and frankly, it deserves the spotlight.
It’s playful, colorful, and has that “I just woke up like this” kind of charm that only a good trailing plant can pull off. If you’re looking for something that adds instant personality to a shelf, plant stand, or bright corner, this one does the job without being overly fussy.
Why we’re into it this month:
- It brings fresh color into your space fast.
- It’s a fun pick for first-time plant people and collectors alike.
- It looks especially good when styled in a simple pot and left to do its thing.
Also, yes, it photographs extremely well. Some plants just understand the assignment.
Around the Shop: Spring Planting Prep
If your windowsill jungle is about to become a patio situation, now’s the time to make your moves. May is all about setting your plants up before summer hits full blast.
A few planting reminders from our side of the potting bench:
- Wait for consistently warm nights. Tender plants still want stable temps before moving outside full-time.
- Mulch is underrated. It helps hold moisture and keeps roots happier when afternoons heat up.
- Feed active growers. This is prime growing season, so a balanced fertilizer can go a long way.
If you want the full version, you can read more here: Spring Planting Prep.
Whether you're eyeing a bright Polka Dot Plant, a cheerful Coleus Lava Rose, or something simple for a seasonal refresh, the shop is stocked with good spring energy right now.
Community Events
Whatnot Auctions
Catch us live every Saturday at 1 PM.

Our Whatnot lives are basically part auction, part plant hang, part “how did I end up emotionally attached to this Philodendron?” We’ve been sourcing special pieces for May, including high-variegation favorites, collector-worthy finds, and unusual picks like the Cryptanthus Pink Star.
If you love a good surprise, a little friendly bidding chaos, and hearing plant care tips in real time, this is your lane.
A Few Big Things on the Horizon
- The website is officially live: groundedgardens.us
- Grand Opening is coming soon: consider this your friendly little teaser to stay tuned
- More shop updates are on the way: and yes, we’re very excited about all of it
More Ways to Hang With Us

Beyond the shop floor and live sales, we’ve got more community moments on deck this month too:
- Wellness & Yoga with Plants for a calm, grounded start to the weekend
- The Art of Potting for anyone ready to get their hands dirty in the best way
- Botanical Watercolor Sessions for slow, creative time surrounded by greenery
If something sounds like your kind of afternoon, check our events page for updates and registration details.
Until Next Time
That’s the May roundup from our little corner of the plant world. Thanks for being here, for cheering on the shop, and for continuing to make Grounded Gardens feel like a real community instead of just a place to buy pretty things, though to be clear, we do also love pretty things.
See you in the shop or in the live chat.
Warmly,
The Grounded Gardens Team
